Awesome Desktop

I have an obsession with desktop wallpapers. I can't have them for too long. And I even coordinate Tweetdeck's color palette to whatever I've got chosen at the moment.

So this just might be my new wallpaper. Because it is awesome™ and they're light sabers people! CMYK light sabers.

Fitting that I have "You Shook Me All Night Long" in my head this morning. See the whole collection at fubiz.

House of Mystery

I'm in the mood for Halloween. October can not get here fast enough. Plus I take vacation in October. :D

Via FFFFound.

It's a little weird. But I like weird. And he's cute... and he makes cute noises.

Brilliant shaun. :D

By artist Karen La Monte, I've cast steel before – and that was tricky. I can't imagine casting glass. Oh and say cast glass 5x fast. Go ahead.

Because that house looks about the right amount of creepy. And the weather fits perfectly.

Paper Art

I feel like I'd need to take a vow of silence to do this. The patience required must be astronomical. And patience and I aren't really good friends... I think she thinks I'm a bitch.

Anyhoo... more here.

But I won a toy from an online dirty santa – so I'm going to keep trying. :) Although I wish it would quit telling me I'm unlucky – I'd like to yell "no shit" at it.

Via Carb Free Creativity. The Scott Pilgrim site is pretty cool too.

These are awesome. I don't know how I feel about being attacked by my red wine, even if that's what usually happens. ;)

Wanna see some creepy, cool underwater statues?

I thought you would.

A mustache was the only thing missing. Now it is officially awesome™.

Via AdLand.

And if for some reason you've been living under a ROCK for the last two days, Old Spice has now become the highlight of my day adding videos on YouTube directed at fans. These are so much better than the Bruce Campbell commercials. ;)

Sadly though, he's missing the Selleck 'stache. A goatee isn't nearly as awesome. ;)

Origami

I could always fold a crane. More here.

Nowadays, my friends see things like this and automatically think of me.

For the first time I think I'm a little glad to be at work – I mean at least the building has air conditioning. These little guys don't look very big though – and I wouldn't want that mean guy.

Oh, and I don't have a dog, but perhaps if I did – I'd get him this fun toy...

I made him look drunk on purpose.

Infrared Film

Unfortunately I never got to shoot with infrared film and I always wanted to. I did try my hand at liquid light – which is about as picky and hard to work with.

If you've never seen any, I stumbled upon some today. I might have to go get some for this weekend, although it really may be too hot outside for that.

Color Chips

Despite being in Advertising, I don't post much anymore on it... mostly because there has not been a new Slowsky ad in a long time. Only one more reason for my dislike with Comcast to grow. Where's THEIR sitcom?? I mean seriously.

But on to cool ads I just saw and wish I did. At least Durham is sort of near me, maybe I can feel smart by proximity. ;)

Not only are they bright and colorful and make me think of summer – but the sculptures are real and such a great idea. You should be able to buy one. I would buy this one, because I love ice cream. And now I want to repaint my house.

So awesome work McKinney, I like your website too.

Found via Communication Arts, also there are more ads there.

Happy Friday

I wish I could stomp around in red wellies. I will probably be working this weekend. Don't even get me started... I may go be mad on Twitter. :p

Also, still alive and I will post something besides mustaches soon. I guess. :D

Or our own town. I feel ya buddy:

I find myself being greeted with cutouts of articles talking about procrastination while supervisors and people with some leverage in the decision making business of the department are constantly rendezvousing to chat it up while I have my headphones on and I’m sending the twelfth job for the day. I’m handing things early and the thanks I get are the ones that are already embedded into the signature of an email. That and finger wagging emails highlighting trivial “mistakes” that are more style than substance and which on a rush day wouldn’t make any difference.

Misery loves company, so read the whole post.

Happy Friday

I'll get to important things later. If I think of them. ;)

So brandflakesforbreakfast pointed me to the creepy robot site.

Which makes this German study extremely... creepy. (Thanks Grant.)

German researchers studied what happens in accidents involving robots using sharp tools alongside humans.

They used a robot arm holding a variety of bladed tools programmed to strike test substances that mimic soft tissue.

In some cases, the researchers found, the robots managed to accidentally inflict wounds that would prove "lethal".

The tests were conducted to see if a prototype safety system could limit the damage done.

We haven't talked about pandas in a while. This will help.

Isn't that just gorgeous?!

As it turns out, the Obama administration put $13.4 billion of the aid money as “working capital” in an escrow account when the company was in bankruptcy. The company is using this escrow money–government money–to pay back the government loan…

Sean McAlinden, chief economist at the Ann Arbor-based Center for Automotive Research, points out that the company has applied to the Department of Energy for $10 billion in low (5%) interest loan to retool its plants to meet the government’s tougher new CAFÉ (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) standards. However, giving GM more taxpayer money on top of the existing bailout would have been a political disaster for the Obama administration and a PR debacle for the company. Paying back the small bailout loan makes the new–and bigger–DOE loan much more feasible.

In short, GM is using government money to pay back government money to get more government money. And at a 2% lower interest rate at that. This is a nifty scheme to refinance GM’s government debt–not pay it back!

GM boasts that, because it is doing so well, it is paying the $6.7 billion five years ahead of schedule since it was not due until 2015. So will there be an accelerated payback of the rest of the $49.6 billion investment? No. That goal has been pushed back, as it turns out.

LOL, thanks Ben. :)

Nice...

I miss shooting with 120 film. Only because I have no place to develop it anymore. Digital may be quicker, but it's not as fun.

So I LOVE this student packaging design for Ilford that is being spotlighted on The Dieline.

Pineberries

This was posted yesterday, so I'm guessing no April Fool's Joke here:

Grown in glasshouses, pineberries start off green, gradually turning paler as they ripen.

When the fruit is sweet and juicy enough to eat, the flesh is almost totally white but studded with red seeds - the reverse of the usual variety.

The pineberry is said to combine the shape and texture of a strawberry with a flavour and smell closer to that of a pineapple.
