That's like a second grader or something.

I am so cold. Typing is keeping my fingers from going numb.

Fort Knox - June 1942, FSA

I'm hoping I can get home in time so that there is some light and I can take a photo of my neighborhood. The boy scouts come put flags in almost everyone's yard today and on other holidays like it. It's such a picturesque sight.

*Sigh*

Y'all should be so proud of me. I made a little Flash intro, all by myself. Yeah, so what if it wasn't very complicated? I did it. :p

Oh, and if I NEVER hear the words "too much white space" again, I think I'll be OK.

Secondly, we hate the Glade Scented Candle commercials in my house. Only the first one is up on YouTube that I can find. Why? Because the woman is a pathological liar and her friends and family should have had an intervention years ago - I mean who lies about candles? To add to the complete horribleness which is these commercials - the latest one has a talking/moving ginger bread cookie. We throw things at the TV.

Lastly, I HEART the new Slowskys commercial where they're in a movie getting ready for it to start. It's not on YouTube yet because apparently not every one shares my love of those silly turtles.

There's another juried art show coming up and I have to figure out what to enter. Something I've done in the last 2 years and the deadline is fast approaching. Cross your fingers I figure something out.

Oh, and happy Veteran's Day. :)

UPDATE: Also, if you could pick one thing that says advertising to you... what would that be?

on vacation.

and i need one.

see you in a week.

I have been busy. But I'm going on vacation next week! No, I'm not going anywhere, my finances, like the economy, are not as they should be. And I've been busy following the election.

I'm not going to give my opinions necessarily, despite having some strong ones. I don't articulate them very well. But I would urge anyone who happens by here to actually go read up on both candidates. You can't get to the meat of their experience, policies, and records through a 2-minute TV sound byte. Go read an article that is so long it would hurt your eyes to read on your computer. A read ones both for and against both candidates and make up your own mind.

Don't be swayed by oversimplified talking points and pretty graphics.

I found a quote the other day and I really like it and think it's quite relevant for these days. I haven't researched the man that much yet, but the quote, I like.

Television is altering the meaning of 'being informed' by creating a species of information that might properly be called disinformation… Disinformation does not mean false information. It means misleading information – misplaced, irrelevant, fragmented or superficial information – information that creates the illusion of knowing something, but which in fact leads one away from knowing.

~Neil Postman

BTW, I need mine done too.

Ha ha.

I love these. First time during the game I saw this one, but we laughed.

It's Almost Here.

It's now officially Fall and last night I came home to a surprise present from a friend: Halloween candy. She has a 3-year old and a 6-year old and it was their idea to leave the candy.

I can ignore milk chocolate, and Whoppers (which I'd never had before) and I can even ignore Kit Kat's and suckers, but dammit she put Reese's Cups and Junior Mints and I am trying my best to stay out of the kitchen.

September is almost over, which means my FAVORITE month in the whole year is starting soon. Shortly the leaves will start changing and the nights are days are already cooler. I'm going to start making pumpkin pies and soups and I'm going to make my sister make her Butternut Squash lasagna.

I really wish I could take the whole month of October off. I can't but I did take a week off and I can't wait for it. It's taking forever to get here.

Anyway, to get you in the mood, at least a little, because October also brings Halloween! So here are 7 Spooky Ghost Towns for you to enjoy. Or at least procrastinate a little with.

I can't figure out how to embed this. So go watch it.

But if you need to be put in the mood. I just read about a creepy story on the blog Phantoms & Monsters, the name of the post is titled The Himuro Mansion Haunting: Japanese Urban Legend or Fact? and the original post is over at a blog named Paranormala.

Here's an excerpt:

This is the basis of the “haunting” of the Himuro Mansion. Local legend has it that these souls of the murdered family wander the mansion attempting to repeat the failed ritual using whomever enters the abandoned building. Blood splashes on the walls are reportedly seen, as if they were flicked from the blade of a sword that had recently sliced through flesh. Many have reported seeing spirits and apparitions dressed completely in white, rinsing cloths and preparing the grounds for the ritual.

Reminds me of The Grudge (hence the visual). One weekend my sister and I decided for some reason to watch The Grudge and The Grudge 2 back to back. Freaked us the hell out, probably because we emmersed ourselves a little too much in the story. We also has a friend who can unhinge her jaw (yeah, I'm talking to you Mandi) and make that face. I'd tell her to be that for Halloween, but it would probably freak me out TOO much.

New Favorite Word

tintinnabulation: a tinkling sound, as of a bell or bells.

That is the word of the day, from I don't know where. Say that 10x fast. I need to work this into my every day vocabulary I think.

I have been behind the 8 ball ever since I got back from out-of-town last week. It was fun, but damn my house needs to be vacuumed.

I'm recovering from a bit of heat exhaustion and sun-burn as well. It's what happens when you're a blond airhead who forgets to drink water and wear sunscreen as she runs all over the VT campus and watches the VT/GT game on the sunny side of the stadium. My sister made me sit for most of the first quarter while I drank water and had another cold bottle on the back of my neck. She's smart. And I'm finally feeling normal.

I had fun stuff to blog about and now I've forgotten everything and lost all the links. I have been reading your blogs, I just haven't gotten the gumption to grace your blogs with my opinion. ;)

Oh, as you know, I hate dolls - so this is FREAKING CREEPY. It's freaking me out just looking at the page long enough to get the link. I watched the first 13 seconds of that video and had to turn it off.

Hers is over 6ft long! And really skinny. (*snicker* the quotes have that middle school humor... )

Not only is that one big zucchini, that is one HUGE zucchini vine. It looks like it's growing on a trellis overhead.

Now that's an idea. Mine were just in raised beds and started taking over the walkway. Although, I'm not sure where to put a trellis like that in my backyard.

She says in the article they usually don't get more than 4ft... does she normally grow 4ft tall zucchini??

We have some Virginia Tech football news to announce: Tyrod Taylor is back.

Beamer said he informed Glennon of the decision Monday and that Glennon was very disappointed. Taylor is excited, Beamer said. Neither quarterback will be available for interviews this week.

I feel slightly bad for saying this but perhaps if Glennon didn't crumble under the pressure and throw 2 interceptions on Saturday he wouldn't be "very disappointed." I guess though that I too would be very disappointed. I'd want to prove myself too after the taunting and hate mail he's gotten.

But, I still can't wait for Saturday. :D

Supposedly a California man believes his step-father was the Zodiac Killer.

I have a weird fascination with serial killers. Truth be told, the fascination sometimes bothers me. I blame a criminal justice class I had to take in high school. The teacher was one of my favorites (she also taught me American History), she used to crow in the middle of class specifically to bother the English class beside us.

Mysterious Skulls

The Horned Skull:

During an archaeological dig in Sayre, Bradford County, Pennsylvania in the 1880s, a number of human skulls were unearthed. These skeletons were anatomically correct, except for the anomaly of their projections, two inches above the eyebrow, and the fact that their average height in life would have been around seven feet tall. The bones were sent to the American Investigating Museum in Philadelphia, where they were stolen - never to be seen again.

If you haven't heard - they've apparently found a "bigfoot" body in Georgia. There've been blog posts about it for a while, but it didn't really get people's attention until they released photos yesterday/late last nightish. And it's either real or one of the most elaborate hoaxes ever.

UPDATE: Nevermind, move along. See, that's what happens if I post something before I get to read the new stuff - probably fake.

Also, on a related note: as usual some people think this is just a marketing stunt for a movie. Which brings me to an annoyance of mine. Do the people behind dumb, fake stunts kinda like this could be not realize that slowly people will not fall for any of their publicity stunts? "Faking" things isn't a good way to go "viral." Seems more like the boy-that-cried-wolf to me. Why not make it genuinely interesting and cool, oh and relevant instead of making the people that forwarded it feel like idiots? Besides the pay-off on these things is always a let-down. Ooh, cool faceless people = car site. Let down.

People don't believe advertising anyways. Most commercial breaks my sister is turning and looking at me going, "Really?? That's stupid!" Dumb stunts and fake personas and sites isn't going to help in the long run.

I'm feeling cynical today. It's days like today that I think I should go back and finish my teaching degree so I can make sure kids don't fall for this kind of stupidity.

UPDATE 2: One of these guys was on Fox News this morning. *rolls eyes*

Every 4 years I become incapable of doing anything else but watching the Olympics. I had a child-hood fantasy of being an Olympic swimmer.

I also wanted to do gymnastics but I gave up after the uneven bars in elementary school. That shit is HARD. :p Doesn't help that I can't even do a pull-up now.

I can usually ignore the announcers, I'm used to them. But I'd like to smack the woman who is the "side-line reporter" interviewing the swimmers after their matches. She asks the dumbest questions. Sorry. She was interviewing Natalie Coughlin the night before last about her drifting and insinuating how big of a problem it was going to be for her. Yeah, well she showed you, didn't she?

Also - I LOVE all the VISA Olympic commercials. You can't get a better combination of the Olympics and Morgan Freeman.

UPS & Coconut Oil

My sister is having a time with a package at UPS. Last week, on the 29th at 10:29pm to be exact, our tracking number shows that her package arrived and was scanned.

She called on Saturday. No she could not pick it up, no they don't know why she didn't get it on Wednesday and that it was scheduled to be loaded onto the truck Sunday night and she would be getting it on Monday. And no, they didn't know why it was taking this long.

Monday came and went and she called customer service again. They don't know where the package is. My sister tells them it's in the warehouse here and it was supposed to be loaded on Sunday night. The customer service rep said they didn't know where the package was and she'd need to call the company so that they could trace it. Which of course frustrates my sister to no end because she was told and saw on their website where it arrived and has apparently been sitting there for a week.

Now she's called the company (Wilderness Family Naturals) that she ordered the coconut oil from. This place has what looks like only 3 customer service reps, I know this because they're extensions are all listed. You'd think a smaller company would be able to give better customer service. Not really, but we'll see. The rep just told her it was here and she'd *try* to see if there was somebody she could call who could call UPS.

I think we just need to go over there and make someone search their little warehouse until we have it. We'll see if the company she ordered it from tries to help at all as I doubt UPS will magically become competent and find the package.

Look, two of my favorite things together. :p

I'm not posting a photograph - that thing is nasty. If you want to see the original one and a brand new one that came out today-ish - go to Cryptomundo.

I'm not saying the Montauk Monster is one - it may be just a really gross, bloated raccoon/dog/cat/badger with it's nose half gone. I know pleasant Friday image.

Anyways, Venom Energy drink is now offering a lifetime supply of the energy drink to someone who catches one of the monsters alive.

Dedicated to enabling the most thrill-seeking conquests known to man or beast, Venom energy drink is offering free product for life and a corporate monster-hunting sponsorship to the first person badass enough to capture a live Montauk Monster. Was it a de-shelled turtle? A chupacabra? A manticore? No one knows for sure, and the mystery of the grotesque sea-beast that washed ashore yesterday morning in Montauk, N.Y. remains a mystery. While vacationing Hamptonites recoiled with fright and the Internet exploded with speculation, the team behind Venom mobilized for action, realizing that this was the chance for true adventure that its thrill-seeking customers have been waiting for.

As a consultant to this quest, Loren Coleman, director of the International Cryptozoology Museum and Cryptomundo blogger (http://cryptomundo.com) said, "I would advise Montauk Monster hunters to use great caution getting close to this cryptid, and to wear thick gloves."

Apparently Fernando Rizo of the PR firm behind the promotion is a Cryptomundo fan and reader. Kinda cool. I wonder what they'll do if the thing turns out to be a real animal and not a half-mutant-type thing.

It's shaping up to be a busy one here this week. Which is great. I still have 6 VERY productive zucchini plants. Last night it was grilled zucchini (YUM!™) and more chocolate zucchini muffins - these were the best batch yet. Tonight, it's stuffed zucchini and fried zucchini.

Unfortunately, the video he sent me expired... and I answered the phone, so I don't have the message recorded like last time. But I'm getting ready to send it to my sister - so there may be some audio yet. ;)
