This is the recently opened Academy of the Sciences in San Francisco - how awesomely cool.
Although, I totally got fooled, I thought the whole thing was underground, but that photo just makes it look like that - to see the whole building go to their website: calacademy.org, still VERY cool though.

A film maker who wears a prosthetic eye already is considering placing a camera inside his fake eye and using it as a chance to "lifecast."
This is very cool, but something about it freaks me out. Maybe because I avoid cameras like the plague and I like knowing where they are and knowing if I am in fact being filmed. Cool for a documentary, but still creepy.

I am recovering from an ear infection that started Sunday afternoon. Today is my first day back at work and it's not fun so far.

If you haven't talked to me recently or at all on Facebook, you may not know my hilarious recent obsession with Tom Selleck's mustache.
We were talking about things we trusted here at our fun agency and I suggested Magnum p.i. Which led to trusting Tom Selleck's mustache. Which in turn led to my February calendar graphic of Tom Selleck's mustache for the agency calendar.

First Photographic Evidence of Nessie Turns 75.
0 comments Posted by Thinking In Vain at 11/13/2008 01:36:00 PMThe headline of the article actually says Nessie mystery turns 75, but I had to read St. Columba's biography in Early Irish and British history. If I remember correctly he banished the monster and blessed the lake - guess that didn't work. :pWhile not a famous as the (fake) Surgeon's photo, this would be the first photograph of "Nessie." Y'all should be so proud of me. I made a little Flash intro, all by myself. Yeah, so what if it wasn't very complicated? I did it. :p
Oh, and if I NEVER hear the words "too much white space" again, I think I'll be OK.
Secondly, we hate the Glade Scented Candle commercials in my house. Only the first one is up on YouTube that I can find. Why? Because the woman is a pathological liar and her friends and family should have had an intervention years ago - I mean who lies about candles? To add to the complete horribleness which is these commercials - the latest one has a talking/moving ginger bread cookie. We throw things at the TV.
Lastly, I HEART the new Slowskys commercial where they're in a movie getting ready for it to start. It's not on YouTube yet because apparently not every one shares my love of those silly turtles.
There's another juried art show coming up and I have to figure out what to enter. Something I've done in the last 2 years and the deadline is fast approaching. Cross your fingers I figure something out.
Oh, and happy Veteran's Day. :)

on vacation.
and i need one.
see you in a week.
I have been busy. But I'm going on vacation next week! No, I'm not going anywhere, my finances, like the economy, are not as they should be. And I've been busy following the election.
I'm not going to give my opinions necessarily, despite having some strong ones. I don't articulate them very well. But I would urge anyone who happens by here to actually go read up on both candidates. You can't get to the meat of their experience, policies, and records through a 2-minute TV sound byte. Go read an article that is so long it would hurt your eyes to read on your computer. A read ones both for and against both candidates and make up your own mind.
Don't be swayed by oversimplified talking points and pretty graphics.
I found a quote the other day and I really like it and think it's quite relevant for these days. I haven't researched the man that much yet, but the quote, I like.
Television is altering the meaning of 'being informed' by creating a species of information that might properly be called disinformation… Disinformation does not mean false information. It means misleading information – misplaced, irrelevant, fragmented or superficial information – information that creates the illusion of knowing something, but which in fact leads one away from knowing.

September is almost over, which means my FAVORITE month in the whole year is starting soon. Shortly the leaves will start changing and the nights are days are already cooler. I'm going to start making pumpkin pies and soups and I'm going to make my sister make her Butternut Squash lasagna.
I really wish I could take the whole month of October off. I can't but I did take a week off and I can't wait for it. It's taking forever to get here.
Anyway, to get you in the mood, at least a little, because October also brings Halloween! So here are 7 Spooky Ghost Towns for you to enjoy. Or at least procrastinate a little with.

But if you need to be put in the mood. I just read about a creepy story on the blog Phantoms & Monsters, the name of the post is titled The Himuro Mansion Haunting: Japanese Urban Legend or Fact? and the original post is over at a blog named Paranormala.
Here's an excerpt:
This is the basis of the “haunting” of the Himuro Mansion. Local legend has it that these souls of the murdered family wander the mansion attempting to repeat the failed ritual using whomever enters the abandoned building. Blood splashes on the walls are reportedly seen, as if they were flicked from the blade of a sword that had recently sliced through flesh. Many have reported seeing spirits and apparitions dressed completely in white, rinsing cloths and preparing the grounds for the ritual.
Reminds me of The Grudge (hence the visual). One weekend my sister and I decided for some reason to watch The Grudge and The Grudge 2 back to back. Freaked us the hell out, probably because we emmersed ourselves a little too much in the story. We also has a friend who can unhinge her jaw (yeah, I'm talking to you Mandi) and make that face. I'd tell her to be that for Halloween, but it would probably freak me out TOO much.

I have been behind the 8 ball ever since I got back from out-of-town last week. It was fun, but damn my house needs to be vacuumed.
I'm recovering from a bit of heat exhaustion and sun-burn as well. It's what happens when you're a blond airhead who forgets to drink water and wear sunscreen as she runs all over the VT campus and watches the VT/GT game on the sunny side of the stadium. My sister made me sit for most of the first quarter while I drank water and had another cold bottle on the back of my neck. She's smart. And I'm finally feeling normal.

0 comments Posted by Thinking In Vain at 9/02/2008 02:00:00 PMWe have some Virginia Tech football news to announce: Tyrod Taylor is back.
Beamer said he informed Glennon of the decision Monday and that Glennon was very disappointed. Taylor is excited, Beamer said. Neither quarterback will be available for interviews this week.
I feel slightly bad for saying this but perhaps if Glennon didn't crumble under the pressure and throw 2 interceptions on Saturday he wouldn't be "very disappointed." I guess though that I too would be very disappointed. I'd want to prove myself too after the taunting and hate mail he's gotten.

Supposedly a California man believes his step-father was the Zodiac Killer.
I have a weird fascination with serial killers. Truth be told, the fascination sometimes bothers me. I blame a criminal justice class I had to take in high school. During an archaeological dig in Sayre, Bradford County, Pennsylvania in the 1880s, a number of human skulls were unearthed. These skeletons were anatomically correct, except for the anomaly of their projections, two inches above the eyebrow, and the fact that their average height in life would have been around seven feet tall. The bones were sent to the American Investigating Museum in Philadelphia, where they were stolen - never to be seen again.

If you haven't heard - they've apparently found a "bigfoot" body in Georgia. There've been blog posts about it for a while, but it didn't really get people's attention until they released photos yesterday/late last nightish. And it's either real or one of the most elaborate hoaxes ever.
UPDATE: Nevermind, move along. See, that's what happens if I post something before I get to read the new stuff - probably fake.
Also, on a related note: as usual some people think this is just a marketing stunt for a movie. Which brings me to an annoyance of mine. Do the people behind dumb, fake stunts kinda like this could be not realize that slowly people will not fall for any of their publicity stunts? "Faking" things isn't a good way to go "viral." Seems more like the boy-that-cried-wolf to me. Why not make it genuinely interesting and cool, oh and relevant instead of making the people that forwarded it feel like idiots? Besides the pay-off on these things is always a let-down. Ooh, cool faceless people = car site. Let down.
People don't believe advertising anyways. Most commercial breaks my sister is turning and looking at me going, "Really?? That's stupid!" Dumb stunts and fake personas and sites isn't going to help in the long run.
I'm feeling cynical today. It's days like today that I think I should go back and finish my teaching degree so I can make sure kids don't fall for this kind of stupidity.

Every 4 years I become incapable of doing anything else but watching the Olympics. I had a child-hood fantasy of being an Olympic swimmer.

I can usually ignore the announcers, I'm used to them. But I'd like to smack the woman who is the "side-line reporter" interviewing the swimmers after their matches. She asks the dumbest questions.
