Isn't that just gorgeous?!

As it turns out, the Obama administration put $13.4 billion of the aid money as “working capital” in an escrow account when the company was in bankruptcy. The company is using this escrow money–government money–to pay back the government loan…

Sean McAlinden, chief economist at the Ann Arbor-based Center for Automotive Research, points out that the company has applied to the Department of Energy for $10 billion in low (5%) interest loan to retool its plants to meet the government’s tougher new CAFÉ (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) standards. However, giving GM more taxpayer money on top of the existing bailout would have been a political disaster for the Obama administration and a PR debacle for the company. Paying back the small bailout loan makes the new–and bigger–DOE loan much more feasible.

In short, GM is using government money to pay back government money to get more government money. And at a 2% lower interest rate at that. This is a nifty scheme to refinance GM’s government debt–not pay it back!

GM boasts that, because it is doing so well, it is paying the $6.7 billion five years ahead of schedule since it was not due until 2015. So will there be an accelerated payback of the rest of the $49.6 billion investment? No. That goal has been pushed back, as it turns out.

I love these.

Ugh. Monday...

I've got so little to do after being so busy for so many weeks, I don't know what to do with myself.

And Lost is a rerun. :p

This has been going around though... I heart charts.

Turn Around...

LOL, thanks Ben. :)

Nice...

I miss shooting with 120 film. Only because I have no place to develop it anymore. Digital may be quicker, but it's not as fun.

So I LOVE this student packaging design for Ilford that is being spotlighted on The Dieline.

See more at thedieline.com.

p.s. Speaking of photography, I'm in image searching hell. :p

Pineberries

This was posted yesterday, so I'm guessing no April Fool's Joke here:

Grown in glasshouses, pineberries start off green, gradually turning paler as they ripen.

When the fruit is sweet and juicy enough to eat, the flesh is almost totally white but studded with red seeds - the reverse of the usual variety.

The pineberry is said to combine the shape and texture of a strawberry with a flavour and smell closer to that of a pineapple.

The ability to dip would be kind of awesome.

The ketchup packet has been around for more than 40 years, and complaints about it for nearly as long: too messy, too small, too hard to open. Now ketchup giant H.J. Heinz Co. is unveiling the first major packaging change to the to-go condiment.

The new design has a base that's more like a cup for dipping and also a tear-off end for squeezing, plus it holds three times as much ketchup than a traditional packet.

Another of these possibly alien types, the Flatwoods Monster appears to be someone's hellish vision of a nun, mixed with alien effects budget of the final season of the original Star Treck. Standing 10 feet high, with bulging eyes, a heart shaped red face, and in a pleated green skirt, the Flatwoods Monster terrorized a group of preteens, who couldn't decide if it had short stubby claw arms or not, when later asked. It reportedly made a shrill hissing noise, and glided around. You know what else has a shrill hiss, heart shaped face, glides, and could easily be misconstrued by terrified 12 year olds? A barn owl. Oh, hey there Occam, how're you doing, and how's your razor?

I had never heard of the Flatwoods Monster before. You learn something new everyday. See the rest at brainz.org.

“I would prepare my students for the inevitable…the small projects that take time away from the major projects. For example, after assigning a two week project, I would sporadically assign ‘Client Emergencies’ like that ad that needs to be designed, approved and printed by ‘tomorrow’. That’s something that I wasn’t prepared for when I got my first design job.”

When I was little my grandparents still had the same TV they bought back in 1954. Or it looked like it to me. (That really was when they got there first TV.) But with a farm littered with old forts made by my uncles, you didn't really need it... only thing I ever remember on it was baseball (courtesy of my grandfather) and watching The Bride of Frankenstein with my great-grandmother.

The other thing to do? Look through the hundreds of National Geographics that one of my uncles had collected over the years. I loved to look at the pictures. Figures. So, yeah, I think I might get this... I think this is brilliant.

National Geographic is selling a hard drive with 120 years worth of magazines. I think $200 is worth it considering all the photographs you can look through.
